ONCE AGAIN, SIMONE BILES BROKE RECORDS – AND THE INTERNET WENT WILD
The 2019 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships proved to be historic for Simone Biles.
Biles kicked off the competition by landing two new moves, on the floor and on the beam, that will soon be named the Biles II and the Biles, respectively. The moves mark the third and fourth that will be named after the gymnastics star.
Next, Biles went on to win gold medals in nearly every event to bring her total world championship medal count up to 25, the most by any male or female gymnast in history. Nineteen of her 25 world medals are gold. Her five golds at the 2019 worlds is the most by any gymnast at a single world championships since 1958.
Biles is poised to become the most decorated gymnast across world championships and the Olympic Games at next year’s Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Biles currently has a combined 30 medals, with the record sitting at 33 courtesy of Belarusian gymnast Vitaly Scherbo.
Athletes like LeBron James and Billie Jean King, plus other fans, took to social media to celebrate Biles’ remarkable feats.
